MANILA, Philippines (Jul 2026) — The country’s favorite workhorse pickup truck just received a futuristic transformation, and one of its newest versions does not even require a single drop of diesel to drive.
Toyota Motor Philippines launched the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux, introducing a radical design shift and an expanded lineup that features the first-ever battery-electric vehicle version of the popular nameplate. The latest iteration blends classic ruggedness with modern utility, targeting drivers who want a heavy-duty utility vehicle that still handles smoothly on everyday roads.
A design inspired by sumo wrestling
The new aesthetic borrows from a unique design philosophy called Cyber Sumo, giving the truck a much sharper look. Up front, the vehicle sports distinctive C-shaped LED headlamps that flow into a wider honeycomb grille. The rear features a cleaner design with updated lighting and a built-in step on the side of the deck to make loading cargo much easier.
Each variant has its own unique styling cues. The adventure-ready Conquest variant features a rugged front bumper built for outdoor trips, while the battery-electric model uses a solid, fully enclosed grille to maximize aerodynamic efficiency.
Modern tech inside the cabin
The updated interior moves toward a driver-focused layout with better ergonomics. For entertainment and connectivity, the higher-end Conquest and V variants come equipped with a 12.3-inch display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The G and E variants use an eight-inch screen with wired connectivity.
The premium Conquest variant adds synthetic leather upholstery and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The electric variant matches these premium touches, adding a wireless charging pad and a panoramic view monitor to its 12.3-inch infotainment setup.
Power options and electric performance
The standard internal combustion models run on a 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine, delivering 204 horsepower. Manual transmission models push out 420 Nm of torque, while the automatic versions reach 500 Nm. Toyota also added electric power steering to the V and Conquest trims to reduce steering effort during slow maneuvers, while the G and E versions keep a traditional hydraulic setup.
Stepping into the future, the electric version runs on a dual-motor drivetrain that delivers a combined 196 horsepower and a permanent all-wheel-drive system. It uses a 59.2-kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a driving range of up to 315 kilometers on a single charge. To ease the transition to electric mobility, buyers receive a free wall charger and home installation. Owners can also access an expanding network of authorized charging-equipped dealerships across the country, including locations in Alabang, Commonwealth, Makati, Pasig, and Cebu.
Pricing and options
The internal combustion models start at PHP 1,772,000 (approx. $30,550) for the base E variant, while the top-tier diesel Conquest A/T reaches PHP 2,631,000 (approx. $45,360). The fully electric model is priced at PHP 2,990,000 (approx. $51,550).
