PANGIL, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Imagine riding a garbage truck or an improvised manual stretcher just to reach the nearest hospital during a medical emergency. This has been the daily reality for Pinoys living in Barangay Galalan, an upland community located 20 kilometers away from medical facilities, but a new initiative called “Life Saver on Wheels” is about to change that after winning the 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge.
The harsh reality of upland emergencies
For years, the people of Barangay Galalan and Sitio Gisgis have struggled with a severe lack of accessible emergency transportation. Sitio Gisgis does not even have a passable road for standard vehicles. When emergencies strike, vulnerable groups like senior citizens, children, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities are forced to rely on whatever is available, from motorcycles and private vehicles to garbage trucks.
A real ambulance is finally on the way
To address this crisis, Missionary Yoo Byeong-guk and Pastor Ramil B. Repolido jointly proposed the “Life Saver on Wheels” project. As one of the winners of the LG Ambassador Challenge, the initiative will acquire and deploy a dedicated basic life-support ambulance stationed right at the barangay hall for immediate access.
The project does not stop at providing a vehicle. The team plans to train local volunteers and emergency responders, establish strict emergency protocols, and set up a dedicated hotline for ambulance requests.
Cutting down emergency response times
The organizers aim to serve at least 200 residents who need urgent medical attention every year. By putting a dedicated emergency vehicle on the ground, the project expects to slash hospital transport delays by 50% and give the community round-the-clock access to safe, reliable transportation.
