MANILA, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Bedan students are about to experience a highly digitalized way of campus life as their school rolls out facial recognition scanning and upgraded internet connectivity across multiple sites.

The tech updates arrive just in time for the 125th anniversary of San Beda University. The institution aims to become the first digital campus in the Philippines and Southeast Asia by overhauling its existing infrastructure.

Facial recognition and faster internet

Students and faculty members at the Mendiola, Taytay, and Alabang campuses will notice major updates in their daily routines. The university is deploying enterprise-grade connectivity and widening its Wi-Fi coverage to ensure learning resources remain accessible anywhere on campus.

Security is also getting a high-tech facelift. The school has introduced a facial recognition access system at the Mendiola campus, with plans to expand the setup to the Taytay campus within the year.

A modernized digital experience

Aside from physical campus upgrades, the school is updating its official Website. Powered by Salesforce Experience Cloud, the new platform aims to make it easier for the community to access online services and vital school information.

School officials believe the shifts will help prepare the academic community for the future of education. Rev. Fr. Aloy Maranan, OSB, rector-president of San Beda University, stated that the digital environment allows everyone to connect, learn, and work more effectively while remaining rooted in the mission of the institution.

The project expands on a long-standing partnership between the university and its technology provider. Blums Pineda, senior vice president and head of the PLDT Enterprise Group at PLDT and Smart, noted that the stronger infrastructure builds a foundation to serve the community today and adapt to its needs in the years ahead.
