QUEZON CITY, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Two of the most foundational revolutionary novels in Philippine history are coming alive on stage to challenge how the public remembers its past.
Commemorating the 130th death anniversary of Jose Rizal, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (Dulaang UP) is charting a new map for its 49th theater season with back-to-back stagings of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
A season of radical care
The upcoming milestone season centers around a timely theme: “Paano umalala nang may pag-alaga?” This question tackles how modern society can protect its collective memory against rapid historical amnesia.
To bring these timeless Filipino texts to life, the theater company is gathering two of the most prominent directors in the country. The upcoming productions aim to bridge historical struggles with present-day contexts, continuing the vision of the founding artistic director and National Artist for Theatre, Tony Mabesa.
Sustaining Pinoy theater
Publicity and Press Relations Manager Lora Kate A. Batomalaque shared that the company is actively opening its doors to media partners to help expand the reach of the performing arts. Media partners will receive exclusive access to the productions, artists, and behind-the-scenes stories throughout the season.
The company plans to release three separate press updates, including a comprehensive season overview and dedicated announcements for each of the two upcoming productions.
