Tangina mo, 911. A Filipino actor’s raw, heartbroken rant about trying to save his own father while the emergency hotline kept him on hold is now the angriest post in the country, and the rage is spreading. Basty Askri says he waited nearly ten minutes to get a 911 operator on the line as his father needed urgent help, was told to “wait” while he could hear agents laughing and chatting, and ended up doing CPR himself because no one else would take over. By the time the ordeal was over, his father had died, and Askri, still burning with it, swore at the system that failed them. The post has pulled in over 777,000 reactions, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government is now investigating.
The post that broke the internet
In a Facebook post that exploded on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Askri, a performer and actor with a credited role in the 2025 Filipino drama ‘Sashes and Hearts’, recounted the minutes that went wrong. He also works as a mural artist and professional piercer. “Halos 10 minutes na akong tumatawag sa 911 pero wala pa ring sumasagot,” he wrote. Ten minutes of calling 911, and no one answered. When someone finally picked up, all he got was “wait,” with the sound of agents talking and laughing in the background of an emergency line.
Then his father had a cardiac attack. Askri, having no backup, performed CPR himself while waiting for the ambulance. When it finally arrived, he said it came with no automated external defibrillator, or AED, and not enough equipment. Nobody stepped in to take over the compressions. “Ako pa rin ang gumagawa ng CPR,” he wrote. He was still doing CPR.
Not a tantrum, a wake-up call
“I post this hindi dahil nagtatantrums ako or what,” Askri said. He made clear he was not looking for sympathy, he was looking for fury. “Pinost ko to dahil gusto ko marealize ninyo na dapat lang magalit kayo sa kabulukan na systema ng pinas.” Post it so people realize the system itself is broken enough to deserve their anger.
He pointed a finger well beyond the hotline, cutting into the local government: “I love Taguig, pakyu Taguig.” The incident unfolded in Maharlika Village, Taguig, where a 71-year-old patient needed an ambulance.
The government responds
The viral backlash reached DILG fast. Secretary Jonvic Remulla told ABS-CBN News the agency is investigating “with all seriousness.” According to the timeline he shared, 911 received the call around 12:15 PM and passed it to the Taguig Command Center by 12:17 PM. But follow-ups at 4:57 PM and 5:56 PM found no confirmation that an ambulance had been dispatched or arrived. Remulla flagged problems with shift handover and case endorsement.
It is a stark contrast with the five minute response target the Unified 911 hotline set when it launched in 2025, and with the “zero downtime, two minute rescue” claims from its most recent showcase during the Habagat floods.
Why it hits so hard
Askri’s account is one family’s worst day, but the anger it unleashed is about something millions of Filipinos already suspect: that in a genuine emergency, the line that is supposed to save you may leave you on hold. He ended with a question aimed straight at the system. “Tangina, at kung di ka pa galit sa systema, bakit?” If the system still does not make you angry, why not?
The DILG investigation is ongoing. For Askri, no report will bring his father back, but his call, made loud enough to move a department, may be the thing that forces a badly needed answer.
