Thousands of bank deposit boxes across Asia hold millions of dollars in ancestral gold and antique gemstones that sit completely untouched because they do not fit modern tastes. Etra Fine Jewellery, founded by Eleanor Yeh, is changing that by reworking inherited pieces into wearable, contemporary designs.
The approach turns forgotten family heirlooms into modern luxury, giving old gold and gems new life while preserving their sentimental value. As one example, an outdated sapphire jewelry piece was reworked into a minimal, graduated necklace that a corporate executive now wears to work every single day.
Built on design and trust
Before launching her atelier, Eleanor spent two decades in the United Kingdom, 10 years in finance, and a decade in Tokyo. She built her design expertise by studying Asian art history at SOAS, earning a GIA Graduate Gemmologist credential, and winning the 2024 Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation Award for Excellence in Jewellery Design. That background drives her to design with longevity in mind, creating tailored pieces meant to last through generations without wasteful spending.
