The owner of the San Francisco 49ers spent his weekend in a county jail in Ohio. Jed York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine on suspicion of engaging in prostitution, then pleaded no contest Monday after prosecutors amended the charge to disorderly conduct.

What the court record shows

York, 46, was booked into the Columbiana County Jail following the weekend arrest and was also convicted of possessing criminal tools, per the New York Post. The amended disorderly conduct plea typically carries a fine and short-term penalties rather than jail time.

Who Jed York is

York is the principal owner and CEO of the 49ers, the franchise he inherited from his family’s DeBartolo-York dynasty, and he was just on stage in February hosting Super Bowl LX week in the Bay Area. The arrest lands weeks before the NFL season kicks off, an unwelcome headline for one of the league’s most visible owners.

What happens next

The NFL can review the case under its personal conduct policy, which applies to owners as well as players, though league action on owners historically moves slowly. The 49ers have not issued a statement as of Monday afternoon.
