The Philippines finally has its song for Bangkok. Carmelle Collado won the inaugural Philippine Selection Night with “Sobra-Sobra” and will now carry the Filipino flag at the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia this November.
Carmelle takes top honors
The winner was revealed live on Sunday, August 30. Ten songs from some of the country’s most promising emerging talents took the stage for a shot at the international slot, in a show put together by ABS-CBN and hosted by Vice Ganda, streamed live worldwide on the Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel.

How the winner was picked
The result came from three voting sources, split as follows:
- Professional jury, 40 percent of the score
- Home viewers voting in the Philippines, 40 percent
- Rest of the World vote, 20 percent
Who is Carmelle Collado?
Carmelle rose through a run of reality singing competitions: first runner-up on The Voice Kids, a Tawag ng Tanghalan champion, and a Pinoy Big Brother stint. “Sobra-Sobra,” which means “Too Much,” was written by Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides.
What happens next
Carmelle performs in Bangkok on Saturday, November 14. The selection caps a road that began with the 10 Pinoy songs in contention and led to a selection night streamed for fans around the world.
