Chelsea have agreed a £47.1m deal to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara on transfer deadline day, with the 22-year-old already completing a medical. The move comes as the Blues finalize the departure of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City.

What the deal means

Camara, who starred for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, is not viewed as a like-for-like Fernandez replacement but offers a different midfield profile. Chelsea took up the opportunity to land one of their primary targets after Monaco dropped their asking price when Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton came into doubt.

Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City

The Camara signing runs alongside Enzo Fernandez’s record move to Manchester City for £125m, a fee that matched the British transfer record. Chelsea had also held talks with Roma’s Manu Kone and another unnamed Premier League option before committing to the Monaco midfielder.

Chelsea’s busy deadline day

New boss Xabi Alonso’s squad has been reinforced heavily this summer. The club also signed midfield targets to replace Fernandez, agreed a loan for Mykhailo Mudryk to Tottenham, and continued a squad shake-up across the Premier League.

Chelsea have won all three of their matches this season under Alonso and have also reached the third round of the Carabao Cup.
