Just days after fans laid Dolly Parton to rest, the country legend’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star is under repair after someone apparently scratched over her name.

What happened

Crews were working on the star Tuesday with the brass center emblem removed as workers fixed the black terrazzo panel, CBS Los Angeles reported. The star had apparently been vandalized by someone who scratched over Parton’s name, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

A visitor who came to the star to leave flowers posted a video saying the damage had been done shortly before she arrived, and that a custodian at the scene told her a woman had kicked candles left at the tribute and used the shards to scratch the emblem. That account has not been independently confirmed, and no suspect had been named as of Tuesday.

A star already on the repair list

Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce told ABC7 that Parton’s star was already scheduled for repair work because of existing cracks, with maintenance handled by the Hollywood Historic Trust. The large memorial of flowers, cards and tributes left there after Parton’s death had been cleared to make way for the work when the vandalism happened, she said.

Fans keep the memory alive

Parton, who died at age 80 after a career that made her one of the most beloved names in music, was laid to rest in a private Nashville funeral. Her Walk of Fame star had become a gathering point for grieving fans before the repair crews moved in.
