Disney+ is re-releasing The Mandalorian as an animated LEGO special today, and one familiar face from the early seasons is nowhere in it: Gina Carano’s Cara Dune appears to have been cut out of the story entirely.

What the LEGO remake actually is

LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian is a comedic, brick-built retelling of the original three live-action seasons, stitching the show’s biggest moments into a single streaming special. It lands on Disney+ the same day The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives on the platform, both on September 2.

Lucasfilm and The LEGO Group are framing it as an irreverent take on “your favorite stories and characters from all three seasons,” per Inside the Magic.

Cara Dune is missing from the cast list

Carano’s character, a former Rebel shock trooper turned trusted ally of Din Djarin in Seasons 1 and 2, has not appeared in the trailer or marketing for the LEGO remake. A press release listing the special’s characters and voice actors includes cameo names like Luke Skywalker and Zeb Orrelios, but Cara Dune is absent, and no actor was cast to replace her.

Character Status in the LEGO remake
Cara Dune (Gina Carano) Omitted entirely; not recast
Din Djarin Returning, voiced by Gavin Hammon
Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) Present with a new voice actor
Grogu, Ahsoka, Bo-Katan, others Returning with their voice casts

Why Carano’s character is gone

The move is not a surprise given Lucasfilm fired Carano in 2021 over a string of controversial social media posts, scrapping her planned Cara Dune spinoff. Season 3 already wrote Dune out in-universe, explaining she had joined New Republic special forces. Carano later sued Disney with backing from Elon Musk and X over her dismissal; the two sides settled earlier this year with a joint statement.

The decision to leave Cara Dune out of the LEGO retelling, rather than recast her, points to Star Wars being done with the character for good. This all arrives as the live-action Mandalorian & Grogu, one of the films Filipino fans were most looking forward to in 2026, makes its streaming debut.

Where to watch

Both LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian and The Mandalorian & Grogu stream on Disney+, the same home as other recent Star Wars animation like the Maul-led Shadow Lord series. The voice cast for the LEGO special includes Amy Sedaris, Bill Burr, Rosario Dawson, Katee Sackhoff, and Giancarlo Esposito.
