If you grew up on that chunky gray PlayStation, this one is aimed squarely at you. Sony Interactive Entertainment and The LEGO Group have turned the original 1994 console and its controller into a buildable brick set, and the lid actually opens. The pair revealed the LEGO PlayStation set during a fresh State of Play broadcast, weeks after a leak first tipped it.
A PlayStation 1 you can build, and open
The set, numbered 72306, uses 1,911 pieces to recreate the original PlayStation “fat” console at near 1:1 scale, alongside its wired controller. Fully assembled it measures about 26 cm wide, 19 cm deep and 6 cm tall, so it takes real shelf space.
The headline trick is a working open button on the front right corner. Press it and a spring loaded lid pops up to reveal the build’s interior: a large brick recreation of the classic PlayStation logo and two mini dioramas based on Gran Turismo (1997) and Ape Escape (1999). The Gran Turismo scene packs a tiny track with scaled down cars, and both dioramas can be customized and displayed on their own.

Where it sits in LEGO’s retro lineup
The PlayStation joins a growing shelf of classic game hardware in brick form. It follows LEGO’s Nintendo Entertainment System, Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis builds, and slots neatly between them by piece count.
| Set | Pieces |
|---|---|
| LEGO Nintendo Entertainment System | 2,646 |
| LEGO Atari 2600 | 2,532 |
| LEGO PlayStation (72306) | 1,911 |
| LEGO Sega Genesis | 480 |
Price, release date and the Philippines
The set carries a recommended price of USD 179.99 (EUR 159.99 / GBP 139.99). It goes on sale through Sony’s own direct.playstation.com starting October 1, 2026 in the United States, United Kingdom and a run of European markets, with LEGO Insiders early access the same day and general availability on LEGO.com and LEGO Stores from October 4. No Philippine price or local release date has been announced yet.
Why it hits different for Pinoy gamers
For many Filipino players the original PlayStation was the first console they ever touched, whether it was the family unit or the rented one at the neighborhood shop. Turning that gray slab into a build you can open and display leans straight into the same nostalgia run PlayStation is pushing across its lineup, and it gives 90s kids a very tangible way to own a piece of it.
