ABS-CBN Sports+Action continues to bring Filipino sports fans closer to their own national football team, as the channel is set to air the upcoming matches of the Philippine Azkals in the Philippine Peace Cup this September.
The Philippine Peace Cup is an international football competition organized by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) to celebrate peace month in the country. Competing with the Azkals for the title in this year’s Philippine Peace Cup are the national football teams of Myanmar, Palestine, and Chinese Taipei.
As the current number 1 team in South East Asia, the Azkals have been engaging in rigorous training, preparing themselves for the big tournaments that are up ahead. With the fast approaching Philippine Peace Cup that will kick off today, September 3, the team is up to the challenge in proving their growing reputation in the region against the visiting teams.
Palestine poses a greater threat as they are ranked no. 88 in the world while the Azkals are ranked no. 128. Palestine was also the team that the Azkals lost to during the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 last May 30.
The Azkals will be facing Chinese Taipei later today and it will determine the stakes of the Philippines’ match during the Finals on September 6, where a win in the first round is critical in securing a chance to regain the championship.
Having closely and constantly followed the team’s breakthroughs and growth, ABS-CBN Sports+Action has recognized the Azkals’ resilience and determination, and is thus encouraging every Filipino to join the team and the channel in their “Sugod Azkals!” battlecry for the Philippine Peace Cup, as well as other tournaments that are well on the way.
There are many ways Filipinos can support the team and join the “Sugod Azkals” movement.
Fans may charge to Rizal Memorial Stadium to watch the Philippines vs. Chinese Taipei match on September 3, 7:00 pm. If the Azkals win against Chinese Taipei, their championship match will be at 7:00pm on September 6; and 2:00 pm for the battle for 3rd place if they fail to defeat them.
