Alex Eala is bringing her career-best season back home. The Filipina tennis star is set for “Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate,” a homecoming exhibition against Indonesia’s Janice Tjen on December 8 at the cavernous Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan, where she hopes to make history in front of a record-setting home crowd.
A homecoming five years in the making
Eala, fresh off her maiden WTA title in Washington and a career-high world No. 18 ranking, announced the event in a video message to Filipino fans. “Every time I play abroad, I carry the Philippines with me. To come home and play in front of our fans will be incredibly special,” she said.
The history bid
The 55,000-seat Philippine Arena is a world away from the intimate courts Eala normally plays on, and the event is being framed as a shot at an attendance record for tennis in the Philippines. “I want this to be a day where we celebrate our love for tennis, our culture and the young players who will take the sport forward,” Eala said. “And if all of us come together, maybe we can make a little history too.”
What’s on the night
- Main event: Alex Eala vs Janice Tjen (Indonesia)
- Date: December 8, 2026, at the Philippine Arena, Bocaue, Bulacan
- Also on tap: rising Filipino players, live entertainment and fan experiences
Off the back of a huge US Open week
The homecoming news lands as Eala rides one of the biggest weeks of her career at Flushing Meadows, where she became the highest-seeded Filipino singles player ever with the No. 17 seed in the women’s draw. She reached the top of that week’s buzz and remains a headline act for Philippine tennis heading into 2027.
Eala earlier confirmed she will carry the Philippine flag at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, and fans just watched her fall to best friend Iva Jovic in a US Open exhibition. The December show gives the home crowd its first real look at the country’s No. 1.
