Apple Pay may have just quietly gone live in the Philippines, and the proof is sitting in the wallets of Reddit users who say they can finally add their cards.
Reports from r/DigitalbanksPh say Metrobank Visa Platinum cards are now being accepted by Apple Wallet, with users successfully adding their cards and completing verification. The reports started with a trickle, and now they are a steady stream.

What the Reddit reports say
The strongest report is titled “Metrobank Visa Apple Pay Now Working!” where a user says they successfully added a Metrobank Visa Platinum card to Apple Wallet and passed verification.
Another thread documents a tapping test, where the poster notes that “some card bins are now working and can be integrated to Apple Pay,” adding that this means the system is at the “go live stage.”
Even Metrobank’s own chatbot appears to confirm the feature. A screenshot shared on r/DigitalbanksPh shows the bot replying that users can add eligible Metrobank credit or debit cards to the Wallet app.
GoTyme is showing similar signs. Its App Store listing now references Apple Pay integration, joining the growing list of banks preparing for the rollout.
UnionBank joined the party too. A thread on r/DigitalbanksPh notes that the UnionBank app update now indicates support for Apple Wallet, with users posting that they cannot wait for the rollout.
The excitement has reached the subreddit itself. The r/DigitalbanksPh community banner now reads “Apple Pay Confirmed, accounts this August 2026,” and the moderators have pinned the launch buzz at the top of the feed.
The “Supports Wallet” list keeps growing
Philippine bank apps have been quietly adding “Supports Wallet” to their App Store listings for weeks, a step that is required before Apple Pay can go live.
As of July 31, the list includes BPI, UnionBank, Chinabank, GoTyme, EastWest, and Metrobank, plus fintech apps like Atome and Wise.
Metrobank was the latest addition, and its Visa Platinum card is apparently the first one that users can actually add. That lines up perfectly with the Reddit reports.
What the banks say
BPI president and CEO Jose Teodoro Limcaoco told reporters that BPI has already tokenized its cards and is awaiting Apple’s official launch. “Apple Pay is not yet live, so you have to ask Apple when they will go live,” he said.
BPI’s revised terms and conditions now explicitly name Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Wallet as supported wallet providers.
So the banks are ready on their side. The tokenization work is done, the terms are updated, and the cards can be added. The remaining question is Apple’s timing.
What the BSP says
BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan told Rappler that the central bank never blocked Apple Pay and hinted at an imminent launch. “Stay tuned, because I know some banks are looking to launch,” he said, without naming banks or giving a date.
Earlier reporting from GMA News, citing Fintech Alliance PH founding chairman Lito Villanueva, placed the launch in the third quarter of 2026, with banks still completing Apple’s technical requirements.
The BSP has also confirmed that Apple Pay and Google Pay can launch without BSP registration, which removes one potential hurdle from the process.
The one official catch
Despite all of this, Apple’s official list of supported markets still does not include the Philippines. The list was last updated on July 10, and it changes only when a launch becomes official.
That is the honest tension here: cards are being added, banks are confirming readiness, and yet Apple has not made the announcement. It is the classic quiet go-live phase, where the backend opens before the press release.
The moment Apple updates its list, the launch is effectively official. Until then, treat the card additions as the strongest signal yet that the wait is almost over.

If you have a Metrobank Visa Platinum card, it is worth trying to add it to your Apple Wallet right now. The Reddit reports suggest it will work, and there is no downside to testing.
If you bank with BPI, UnionBank, Chinabank, GoTyme, EastWest, or hold an Atome or Wise card, your app is already flagged as Wallet ready, so your turn is likely coming soon.
