ANTIQUE, Philippines (July 2026) — A local theater performer from Western Visayas is making waves as she prepares to bring her regional storytelling roots to the national cinematic stage.
Freelance theater artist Aubrey Savet reached a new milestone in her career after being selected for The Master Series, a highly competitive film acting workshop organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). Hailing from Antique and fluent in Hiligaynon, Savet has spent years promoting the cultural identity of Western Visayas through her craft. Her acceptance into this elite program marks her transition into the cinematic space, where she now trains alongside some of the country’s most promising screen actors.
Mentorship from industry giants
The FDCP Master Series Acting Workshop is currently led by veteran directors Laurice Guillen, Jose Javier “Direk Joey” Reyes, and Joel Lamangan. This intensive program serves as a testing ground for both emerging and practicing actors to refine their skills for the screen.
For an artist like Savet, who remains deeply connected to her roots, the opportunity provides a new platform to bring authentic regional narratives to national and international audiences.
A versatile portfolio on stage and screen
Savet is no stranger to the spotlight. Her acting resume already includes roles in notable projects such as “Sa Pwesto ni Pistong” by Vincent Joseph Entuna, which was a big winner at the Bacolod Film Festival 2024. She also appeared in “Everyone Knows Every Juan” by Alessandra de Rossi and the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024 awardee “Isang Himala” by Pepe Diokno.
Her dedication to original Pinoy staging includes her participation in “Ang Bata Kag Ang Ilaga,” a play written in Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, and English by Liane Carlo Suelan. Performed during The Virgin Labfest, the play required Savet to blend traditional acting with intricate shadow and live puppetry.
Molding the next generation
When she is not performing, Savet focuses on her role as the Theater Production Head at the Bataan High School for the Arts. In this position, she shares her expertise to help shape young students into future leaders of the country’s cultural sector.
As she undergoes training with the FDCP, Savet continues to bridge the gap between regional theater traditions and the evolving world of Philippine cinema.
