BYD Sealion 7 launch: Tesla Model Y rival priced at P2.58 Million

MAKATI CITY, Philippines (May 2026) — Four and a half seconds. That’s all it takes for BYD’s newest electric SUV to go from a dead stop to 100km/h, making it one of the quickest vehicles the brand has ever brought to the Philippines.

BYD Cars Philippines officially launched the Sealion 7 at the Glorietta Activity Center on May 28, introducing what the company calls its premier all-electric performance SUV. It takes the engineering DNA of the Seal EV sedan — which made a strong impression on local buyers for its power and efficiency — and packages it into a larger, family-ready crossover.

Performance that means business

The Sealion 7 runs on a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing a combined 530PS (523hp) and 690Nm of torque. The sprint to 100km/h takes 4.5 seconds, which puts it in legitimate sports car territory despite its SUV proportions.

Power comes from BYD’s 82.6 kWh Blade Battery, which the company says can deliver up to 542km of range on a single charge under NEDC testing conditions — roughly equivalent to driving from Baguio to Parañaque and back without stopping to plug in. Four drive modes let drivers tune the experience to road conditions and mood.

A proper cabin, not an afterthought

At 4,830mm long, the Sealion 7 is a full-size SUV with room to match. The interior comes with power-ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, a front trunk for extra storage, and a power tailgate with a kick sensor so you don’t have to fumble with your hands full.

The centerpiece of the cabin is a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, complemented by a heads-up display and voice assistant functions.

One feature worth flagging for Pinoys who spend time outdoors or deal with brownouts: the Sealion 7 supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, letting you plug in external devices and appliances directly to the car. It can function as a mobile power station when you need it most.

Safety tech across the board

The DiPilot ADAS suite handles active safety duties, covering 360-degree surround cameras with a see-through mode, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure assistance, and blind spot detection. There’s also a Driver Attention Warning system that monitors for fatigue and distraction using an interior camera — useful for long provincial drives.

Pricing and what you get

The BYD Sealion 7 AWD is priced at PHP 2,588,000 (approx. $44,600). That figure includes a 6-year or 160,000km bumper-to-bumper warranty and an 8-year or 160,000km warranty specifically for the Blade Battery.

BYD also highlights long-term savings through a once-a-year PMS schedule, with estimated maintenance cost savings of up to 50% compared to comparable C-segment SUVs.

Buyers financing through BPI can take advantage of an all-in low downpayment of PHP 388,000 (approx. $6,690), with one year of free comprehensive insurance included — valid until June 30.

The Sealion 7 is available in four colors: Shark Grey, Cosmos Black, Aurora White, and Deep Sea Blue, all with black interiors.

Where to see it

The launch kicks off the BYD Tech Tour at Glorietta Activity Center, running from May 28 to May 31. Test drives are available on-site, and customers who reserve a unit during the event can access exclusive offers.

BYD Cars Philippines currently operates through 81 dealerships nationwide. More information is available at bydcarsph.com.
