From the Heart (Galing sa Puso) Documentary free screening at Newport Cinema

Marriott Hotel Manila and Newport Cinemas is holding a free screening of From the Heart. Renamed Galing sa Puso for the Filipino audience, the film is a documentary about the inspiring journey of Natalie Tjahja, founder of the Maria Monique Lastwish Foundation. Galing sa Puso shares how Tjahja’s heartbreaking loss inspired her to set up a foundation dedicated to helping children with disabilities or terminal illnesses–in some cases, granting their last wishes.

The foundation is named after Tjahja’s daughter, who was diagnosed with a lung infection. Doctors in their home country of Indonesia were not able to treat Maria Monique. Tjahja sold everything and sought treatment in Singapore. Tjahja ran out of money, but the doctors continued to treat her daughter. A member of the hospital staff contacted a local newspaper, and donations started to pour in. But despite everyone’s efforts, Maria Monique succumbed to her illness in 2006.

Tjahja narrates that 100 days after her daughter’s passing, as she was pouring rose petals into a river as part of Indonesian tradition, she heard her daughter in her heart, telling her to ‘find many many children to give happiness.’

The Maria Monique Lastwish Foundation began with just $50, but has grown substantially through word of mouth, bringing happiness to numerous less fortunate children by granting wishes as diverse as providing coloring books to prosthetics. Here in the Philippines Natalia has been working with Camillus Hospital Association and a Happy Room 86 was opened 2 years ago by the Foundation.

The free screening will be held at Newport Cinema, Resorts World Manila on Sept 29 at 10am. The foundation is also holding its “Charity Movie for the Unfortunate” program, where specially invited foundation recipients walk the red carpet like famous actors and actresses.

The last wish foundation is proudly supported by Marriott Hotel Manila, Resorts World Manila, Philippine Airlines, and GarudaFoods.
