GCash honors government partners at Digital Excellence Awards 2023


MANILA, Philippines – GCash, the country’s leading finance super app, recently held its 3rd annual GCash Digital Excellence Awards (GDEA) at Manila Peninsula, Makati City. The event, co-presented by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), recognized public sector partners for utilizing digital financial technology to improve their constituents’ lives.

The ceremony was graced by key government officials, including Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman Emilio Aquino, and representatives from various local government units (LGUs). Martha Sazon, President and CEO of GCash, expressed gratitude to these partners for their commitment to the vision of ‘Finance for All’ and enhancing Filipino lives daily.

Awards were presented in nine categories, spotlighting LGUs that have successfully adopted digital payment solutions in public markets. Among the winners, Lapu-Lapu City, Tagbilaran City, and Naga City received the Excellence in Digital Empowerment Award. Additionally, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija, Mandaue City, and Quezon City were recognized for actively promoting financial account utilization among public market vendors.

The Excellence in Digital Adoption Award was claimed by Mercado de Calamba, Lapu-Lapu City Public Market, and Mutya ng Pasig Mega Market for fully integrating GCash solutions into daily transactions. Dasmariñas City and Victorias City won the Digital Breakthrough Growth Award for their rapid adoption of digital payment collection methods.

Quezon City, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and Small Business Corporation received the Excellence in Digital Transformation Award for their sustained growth in digital transactions. The Excellence in Digital Innovation title was awarded to several cities for promoting digital payment acceptance in various sectors.

Makati City, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Pag-IBIG Fund were honored with the Pioneer in Digital Financial Adoption Award for their long-term collaboration with GCash. The prestigious Catalyst in Financial Inclusion Award recognized the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), and others for facilitating digital financial inclusion for Filipinos.

Cathlyn Pavia, AVP and head of public sector and partnerships at GCash, emphasized the importance of government partnerships in achieving a cash-lite society by 2025. With over 300 national and local government agencies onboarded, GCash aims to expand its reach to further support a more inclusive and digital economy.
