There is no typhoon approaching the Philippines, but the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is making its presence felt across Luzon this weekend. PAGASA issued Weather Advisory No. 33 late Sunday evening, warning of heavy to extreme rainfall over the next three days that could trigger widespread flooding and landslides.

Issued at 11:00 PM on August 9, 2026, the advisory covers a wide swath of Luzon from Ilocos down to Metro Manila and Southern Tagalog. According to PAGASA, the Habagat has intensified, bringing significant rainfall that will persist through at least Wednesday evening.

Extreme rainfall (over 200 mm) – widespread severe flooding and landslides expected:

Moderate rainfall (50-100 mm) – localized flooding possible:

As of late Sunday evening, the Science Garden station in Quezon City recorded a temperature of 25°C with 92% humidity and light precipitation at 1 mm/hr. Winds were light at 3.6 km/hr from the west-northwest, while Port Area, Manila saw stronger westerly winds at 21.6 km/hr. The PAGASA 5-day outlook for Metro Manila shows a gradual improvement:

What to expect
A General Flood Advisory remains in effect. PAGASA warned that rainfall totals may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and that antecedent rainfall could worsen impacts in areas already saturated from previous days. Local disaster risk reduction and management offices have been advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.
The next weather advisory is expected at 5:00 AM on Monday, August 10, unless significant changes occur earlier. Residents in affected areas, particularly those near rivers and in landslide-prone zones, are advised to stay updated through official PAGASA channels.
