HONOR Magic V2, the thinnest foldable phone on the market, is finally in the Philippines! It made a huge splash when it was first announced at the global launch around June of 2023, so we are very excited to finally get our hands on it.

Build quality and design: Thin Is In!

Let’s start with the undeniable: the Magic V2 is incredibly thin. At just 4.7mm when unfolded, it’s practically pocket-sized and feels surprisingly light at only 231 grams (Black edition).

This is a major win for foldable phones, which have often been criticized for their bulkiness.

The sleek design and luxurious finishes, especially the purple variant, are sure to turn heads. The eco-leather back is supposed to offers a more premium experience – not only is it lighter, the texture also feels amazing to the touch.

The innovative hinge feels solid and durable, with an impressive 400,000 fold endurance rating. Unfolding the phone still holds a certain novelty, but the actual benefits of the larger screen over a regular flagship might not be apparent for everyone.

Performance

Packed with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, the Magic V2 is a performance beast.

Multitasking, editing videos, and gaming are all a breeze.

Both the inner and outer AMOLED displays boast 120Hz refresh rates for smooth visuals. The crease is indeed barely noticeable, making content consumption quite enjoyable.

Camera

The HONOR Magic V2 packs a total of five cameras: two 16MP selfie cameras in the cover screen and the inner fold, and a triple rear camera system on the back.

The triple rear camera system boasts a 50MP main sensor with OIS and a 20MP telephoto lens that offers 2.5X optical zoom with OIS. There’s also a 50MP ultrawide camera for wide angle shots.

Battery life

Despite the slim profile, the 5000mAh battery manages to get through a full day with moderate usage. However, heavy users might need a top-up during the day. The 66W fast charging helps, but the lack of wireless charging stings.

Verdict

The HONOR Magic V2 is a technological marvel, pushing the boundaries of foldable phone design. It’s thin, light, powerful, and has beautiful displays.

Indeed, the Magic V2 is a premium phone aimed at early adopters who value innovation and a unique form factor.
