As a certified gadget addict, it doesn’t take me long to get to grips with a new phone. After testing the Lenovo Vibe P1m for awhile, I feel like I have a good idea what it’s all about.

Price wise, it’s identical to the Lenovo A7000 Plus which is a far more capable phone with faster processor, GPU and better cameras.

So why take a hit in performance for the Vibe P1m? Well it’s all about the huge battery and splash proof coating, that’s what you’re paying the premium for.

Huge 3900 mAh battery

One of the major selling points of the phone is the large 3900 mAh battery that should get even the heaviest of users through a full day before needing to be charged.

One interesting thing about the battery is that it’s official capacity rating is 3900 mAh but they advertise it as having an ‘expected’ 4000+ mAh. Personally I wouldn’t like to quote anything other than the rated minimum capacity.

Dedicated power saver switch

With such a large battery on the Lenovo Vibe P1m, you would not find yourself in too many situations where you will be using it. The switch could have been better used for something else - like a dedicated camera button.

If that wasn’t enough, they’ve gone to the effort of adding a physical power-saver switch to the side of the phone. When you flick the switch, the phone will go into a power saving mode and limit what applications can be ran.

Perfect for those times when you’re on your last 10% and want to squeeze out every extra minute you can. With such a large battery, you shouldn’t find yourself making use of this switch very often, so perhaps it would have made more sense to leave it as an on-screen toggle option and use that physical space for something more useful like a dedicated camera button.

Splash proof coating

When it comes to reviewing items, I try to put everything to the test. In this case Lenovo claimed the phone has a nano-coating that protects it from every days spills and general splashes.

I couldn’t find any specifics about the kind of spills that would be covered by this nano-coating so I went all out and poured a full cup of water over the phone.

After drying the phone with some tissue, the call speaker, media speaker, microphone, screen and everything else continued working like nothing ever happened.

8MP Rear Camera – 5MP Front Camera

Both of the cameras feel a little slow to focus and a little laggy with their general frame rate. Indoors they produce grainy images but outdoors under a flood of natural sunlight, they work a lot better. If you’re a wannabe photographer, this isn’t the phone for you.

A fairly average mid-range Android phone that puts more focus on battery life and a splash proof coating than raw CPU/GPU power.
