Kapamilya viewers nationwide tuned in to the inspiring life story and much-awaited acting debut of the first grand champion of “The Voice Kids” Lyca Gairanod in ABS-CBN’s “Maalaala Mo Kaya” recently.

According to data from Kantar Media, the “MMK” episode where Lyca portrayed herself topped the list of the most watched programs last weekend. Last Saturday (August 16), the Nuel Naval-directed episode recorded a national TV rating of 38.4%, or triple the score of GMA’s “Magpakailanman,” which only got 12.8%.

#MMKLyca becomes worldwide trend

Aside from the ratings game, Lyca’s first “MMK” also dominated Twitter’s trending topics list. The show’s official hashtag #MMKLyca became one of the worldwide trending topics, while the phrase “watching MMK” was on the list of nationwide trending topics as netizens took on the microblogging site to share their thoughts about the touching life story of Lyca.

Enchong Dee and Pokwang battle poverty, sickness

Meanwhile, Enchong Dee and Pokwang will star in the upcoming “MMK” episode that will air this Saturday (August 23). They will play the roles of mother and son, Lui (Pokwang) and Paul (Enchong), who are forced to make ends meet for their family after Lui’s father, Eddie (Robert Sena), was struck with a serious illness.

How did Paul manage to finish on top of his class amid all the financial and emotional trials that he and his family had to face?

Also part of the episode are JB Agustin, Carlo Lacana, Phoebe Arbotante, Jerald Napoles, and Jaime Jalandoni. It is directed by Garry Fernando and written by Mark Duane Angos and Arah Jell Badayos. “MMK” is led by business unit head Malou Santos and creative manager Mel Mendoza-del Rosario.
