LAS VEGAS — Conor McGregor’s long-awaited UFC return lasted just 69 seconds. The Irish star suffered a knee injury early in his UFC 329 main event rematch against Max Holloway, forcing a quick stoppage and handing Holloway the win.

McGregor, who had been away from the Octagon for five years, went down on his first kick attempt when his knee buckled. He could not continue, and the referee called the bout. Holloway was declared the winner by TKO.

The fight drew heavy booing from the UFC 329 crowd, many of whom had been looking forward to a full McGregor comeback after years of waiting.

What McGregor said to Holloway

According to Holloway, McGregor didn’t want the fight to end. Holloway revealed that McGregor kept saying “Fight! Fight!” even after the referee had already stopped the bout. The moment drew mixed reactions from fans and fighters across social media.

What happens next for McGregor

McGregor confirmed he will undergo surgery for the injury. In a post-fight statement, he said: “I am beyond dark here.” The loss and injury have sparked debate over whether McGregor will attempt another comeback or call it a career.

Dana White addressed the fight at the UFC 329 press conference, hinting that the promotion is weighing its next steps with the Irish fighter. The UFC has built much of its recent identity around McGregor’s star power, but his repeated injuries and long layoffs have raised questions about his future in the sport.

The rest of the UFC 329 card, including the Benoit Saint-Denis vs. Paddy Pimblett co-main event, went on without issue and received generally positive fight grades from analysts.
