Get back to your Filipino roots this 2014 as “Pinoy Big Brother” teens Myrtle Sarrosa and Yves Flores join Kuya Kim in exploring Pinoy art and culture this Sunday (Apr 6) in “Matanglawin.”

From dressing up as anime characters, Myrtle puts on her FIlipiniana as she visit Villa Tortuga, or the villa of turtles in Batangas and becomes Maria Clara for a day.

Everything old will be new to the eyes as she takes a tour down memory lane and gets to experience holding a camera that takes two minutes to take a photo, learn the secret language of courtship via a fan, and eat yellow adobo with the classic tsokolate “eh!”

She’s not the only one taking a food trip though because back in Angono, Rizal, the Art Capital of the Philippines, Yves is manning it up to take his first bite of cooked coconut worms or uok.

He’ll also try his hand at painting realistic, slice-of-life sceneries inspired by famous Angono-bred artists such as Carlos Botong Francisco and Nemesio Miranda Jr. or Nemiranda.

Meanwhile, Kuya Kim will also take you on a journey to learn all about chairs inspired by classic Filipino legends.

Now on its sixth year, “Matanglawin” continues to educate its viewers via fun-filled and trivia-filled episodes weekly. It has been consistently earning accolades from various award-giving bodies with Kuya Kim being among the top choices as best educational program host. Just recently, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) recognized the program with the very prestigious Ani ng Dangal award. “Matanglawin” also made it as finalist in the Educational/Instructional category of this year’s New York Festivals where it will compete with entries from different parts of the world.
