MANILA, Philippines – OPPO R17 Pro, also known as the OPPO RX17 Pro in European markets, was made official on Tuesday at an event in Milan. Carrying a price tag of 599 EUR or around 36k PHP, OPPO R17 Pro is the brand’s newest flagship, which comes with all of the features and innovations that the company released this year, including:
- Teardrop notch
- In-display fingerprint scanner
- Super VOOC charging
However, the most notable feature appears to have been reserved for the rear camera, which now features a “triple-camera” array, putting it head-to-head against the recently-launched Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Initially launched in China at CNY 4,299 (620 USD), the European pricing of 599 EUR makes it a much more affordable option compared to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, which was priced at 899 EUR when in launched back in October.
However, much of the online criticism comes mainly in part due to its processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, which, despite being respectably powerful, is still one tier below the Snapdragon 845 found in many of this year’s flagship smartphones.
European outlets are quick to point out that the additional camera module does not seem to be enough justify the leap in price, especially when the Snapdragon 845-powered OnePlus 6T was priced at 549 EUR at launch.
In the Philippines, the OPPO R17 Pro will be officially launched tonight. A direct conversion from the China would put the Philippine retail price of the OPPO R17 Pro at around 32K PHP.
Given the current trend of flagship phones crossing the 50K PHP barrier, it is highly unlikely that the R17 Pro will drop below 30K PHP.
Do you think that 30K is a reasonable price in the Philippines for the OPPO R17 Pro? If not, what do you think is a fair price for the R17 Pro? Do you think flagship phone prices are starting get a little too out of hand?
Update (08-Nov-18): OPPO revealed the official retail price of the OPPO R17 Pro in the Philippines at 38,990 PHP, which is even higher than the European pricing.
