MANILA, Philippines – Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach won the crown in the recently concluded Miss Universe 2015 held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega from Colombia crowned the new beauty queen while Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was named the first runner-up and Miss Universe USA Olivia Jordon was named second runner-up.
Earlier, Miss Universe Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez was announced as the winner of Miss Universe 2015. However, host Steve Harvey apologised for the error.
He said that the card had the correct name and he took full responsibility for the error.
Pia got the highest in fan votes in all segments of the competition particularly, swimsuit and evening gown competitions.
On her answer on the question, “Do you think the US should have military presence in the PHL?”; Pia answered “We are very welcoming with the Americans. We have been colonized by the US. We have their culture. I don’t have any problem with that at all.”
Pia won the heart of the judges, voters and fellow contestants when she answer the question why she deserved to be the Miss Universe.
“To Be A Miss Universe Is Both An Honor And A Responsibility. If I Were To Be Miss Universe, I Would Raise Certain Causes Like HIV Awareness That Is Timely And Relevant To My Country Which Is The Philippines. I Wanna Show The World, The Universe Rather That I Am Confidently Beautiful With A Heart,” she said.
It was initially announced by ABS-CBN that they will be airing the show via satellite but the network later decided to make it live for Filipinos to vote real time.
