Thirty years after the Tamagotchi made 90s kids obsess over feeding an egg-shaped pixel pet, Bandai has shrunk the whole idea into something you slip on your finger. The Tamagotchi Ring is the brand’s smallest virtual pet ever, packing a color screen and three buttons into a wearable band that reads as jewelry from a distance.
What is the Tamagotchi Ring
The Tamagotchi Ring was revealed for the franchise’s 30th anniversary, with pre-orders opening in Japan on August 27. At 28mm long it measures roughly 56 percent of the original 1996 egg device, yet it keeps the color LCD and three-button layout that later Tamagotchi generations used.
Bandai says the ring uses the smallest color LCD the series has ever shipped, and that it needed fewer parts than any prior color Tamagotchi. The company spent about two years trimming that component count so the whole pet could live on a finger without getting bulky.

In Japan the ring is priced at ¥7,700 including tax (¥7,000 before tax), or roughly PHP 3,000 and just under US$50. It comes in three finishes: pink and pearl white, black and metallic silver, and blue and metallic gold.
30 characters across 30 years
The ring carries 30 characters pulled from the brand’s history, from original-era Mametchi and Kuchipatchi through to later color-era pets. Bandai engineered the internals so those classic pixel faces render in full color instead of the grainy monochrome of the 1990s originals, which is why the whole device had to shrink so far to fit the screen, battery and three buttons together.
Availability and the nostalgia angle
The Tamagotchi Ring is launching only in Japan for now, sold through Bandai’s P-Bandai store. International buyers can order through proxy retailers such as Meccha Japan, which ships worldwide.
