When we did our TECNON POVA 5 5G hands-on review, we could not help but be impressed by how much value team TECNO managed to pack into such an affordable device. So when they announced that its more powerful sibling, the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G, was coming to the Philippines, we immediately got excited.
Without even knowing the price, we wanted to see if it can handle graphically demanding games such as Honkai Star Rail, which struggled on the non-Pro version.
A gamer’s dream come true
The TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G enters the scene with a mission: to deliver exceptional gaming experiences without breaking the bank. At its core is the Mediatek Dimensity 6080 chipset, a powerful engine designed to handle the demands of modern mobile gaming.
One standout feature is its expansive 6.8-inch full HD display, capable of a buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Gamers will appreciate the fluidity and responsiveness this screen offers, making it easier to react to every in-game situation.
But it’s not just about what’s under the hood. The TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G comes with a unique and eye-catching LED-lit back panel. This distinctive design element adds a touch of flair to the device, setting it apart from other mid-range smartphones in its class.
Gaming isn’t just about raw power; it’s also about staying in the action without interruption. TECNO understands this, which is why they’ve equipped the POVA 5 Pro 5G with 68W fast charging. No more waiting around for your device to recharge; this phone will be ready to dive back into the gaming world in no time.
Benchmarks and gaming performance
In our internal benchmarks, the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G did over 400k points in AnTuTu, 9.7K points in PCMark, and 9.1K points in Passmark. These are comfortably within the mid-range average for smartphones released in 2023.
With Honkai: Star Rail as our benchmark, we enjoyed buttery-smooth gameplay at Medium graphics settings. While the game does not lock us out, it is noticeably sluggish on higher graphics settings.
Like the TECNO POVA 5 Free Fire edition, the packaging is bears the game’s branding, and there are bult-in themes featuring its most prominent characters. Naturally, we expected nothing but stellar performance, and the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G delivered. Graphics were crisp and frame rates were consistent even on Ultra graphics settings.
For our final test, we ran the anime MOBA Jump: Assemble from DeNA, which is currently in Beta Testing. We were impressed by how comfortably the phone’s system handled the game’s cel-shaded graphics, delivering frame rates above 30 FPS even with everything turned on.
Conclusion: Gaming on a budget
With the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G, gamers on a budget now have a viable contender in their hands. Priced at just Php 9,999, this device offers incredible value for money. The Mediatek Dimensity 6080 chipset, the high-refresh-rate display, and the unique LED-lit back panel create a package that’s hard to ignore.
Moderate gamers, in particular, will find the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G to be an excellent companion for their gaming adventures. It’s a testament to how much performance and innovation can be packed into an affordable smartphone.
In a country like the Philippines where mobile gaming is more popular than ever, the TECNO POVA 5 Pro 5G is a welcome addition, proving that high-quality gaming experiences can be accessible to all.
