Tenable brings instant OT discovery to Tenable One so companies can finally see hidden cyber-physical assets

MANILA, Philippines (April 2026) — Many companies still have blind spots when it comes to the growing number of operational technology, IoT devices, and shadow IT assets connected to their networks.

Tenable just made it much easier to close those gaps. The exposure management company launched a new VM-Native OT Discovery engine inside its Tenable One platform that delivers instant visibility into cyber-physical systems without needing extra hardware, agents, or complicated setups.

The new capability works across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments and integrates directly into Tenable’s existing vulnerability management solutions. Organizations can now see unknown OT and IoT assets — from factory equipment and HVAC systems to office printers and badge readers — right away.

Early access customers across hospitality, financial services, education, food and beverage, and government sectors discovered between 100 and over 1,000 previously unknown assets in their first deployment, many with critical vulnerabilities.

Tenable’s approach removes the usual barriers that slow down OT security. No specialized sensors or point solutions are required. This low-friction entry point helps security teams meet compliance requirements faster, eliminate blind spots, and bring cyber-physical risk into a single unified view alongside IT, cloud, and identity exposure.

Eric Doerr, chief product officer at Tenable, explained the importance of the move.

“Cyber-physical risk can’t remain a blind spot in exposure management. We’re giving organizations an immediate, low-friction way to bring OT into scope, so they can gain visibility, meet compliance requirements and start reducing risk from day one, without adding new infrastructure,” Doerr said.

The timing matters. Gartner notes that cyber and cyber-physical attacks are expected to double over the next three years, making cohesive visibility across both domains essential. More than half of CISOs are now responsible for OT security, yet 45% of modern OT compromises still start in IT environments.

For organizations needing deeper OT protection, Tenable also offers Tenable OT Security as part of the Tenable One platform. This provides continuous monitoring and threat detection for more complex environments.

The new OT Discovery engine is immediately available to all Tenable One, Tenable Vulnerability Management, and Tenable Security Center customers.
