PHILIPPINES – ASUS has rolled out an update for the Zenfone 3 Zoom, bringing the smartphone’s operating system to version 7, or Android Nougat.
The update was made available as an OTA (on-the-air) download. Details of the release were posted on the Zentalk forum. Several major changes were introduced in the update, including a revamped PixelMaster camera that supports “portrait mode” and RAW file format support.

Portrait Mode replaces the DoF (depth of field) effect on the Zenfone 3 Zoom. By utilizing the two rear cameras, the software calculates the background areas which can then be selectively blurred.
This results in photos with shallow depth of field, similar to those found in DSLR cameras and on the iPhone 7 Plus.
The Zenfone 3 Zoom also receives the Beauty Live effect along with the update. First introduced in the Zenfone Live, the feature allows users to take live videos with the beauty filters enabled, resulting in smooth-looking skin.
ASUS revealed the Google Daydream and Google Tango-ready Zenfone AR last June. It is the first virtual reality and augmented reality smartphone from ASUS.
