MANILA, Philippines (July 2026) — Buying a new smartphone often means creating more electronic waste, but OPPO says it’s working to change that by making its products, packaging and operations more environmentally friendly while expanding access to technology worldwide.

In its 2025 Sustainability Report, the smartphone maker detailed how it is reducing its environmental footprint while investing in digital inclusion, accessibility and health-focused technologies. The company now operates in more than 90 countries and regions.

Less plastic, more recycled materials

One of the biggest changes happened in product packaging.

All OPPO products released in 2025 used recycled wastepaper in their packaging, accounting for about 43 percent of the materials used for smartphone boxes. In Europe, the company also started replacing conventional plastic packaging with paper-plastic materials made from plant fibers and recycled paper, reducing plastic use even further.

The company also completed life cycle assessments for 23 smartphone models during the year. These studies measure the environmental impact of a device from manufacturing and shipping to everyday use and recycling, helping engineers develop products with lower carbon emissions.

Cutting emissions across the business

OPPO reported continued progress in lowering its carbon footprint.

Carbon emissions from its own operations fell by another 1.22 percent in 2025, continuing a three-year downward trend. The company also recorded a 2.57 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions generated throughout its supply chain.

Renewable electricity use across OPPO manufacturing facilities increased by nearly 70 percent during the year, supporting its long-term carbon reduction goals.

Making smartphones easier for everyone

The sustainability report also highlights efforts to make smartphones more accessible.

More than 30 core ColorOS apps were updated with accessibility improvements for users with visual, hearing and motor impairments.

Features such as TalkBack and Image Description help convert on-screen content into audio, while magnification, color correction and color inversion improve screen readability. Speech-to-text transcription and flash alerts also make devices easier to use for people with hearing impairments.

Health technology continues to grow

Health is another area receiving increased attention.

OPPO officially opened its largest Fitness Health Laboratory in Binhaiwan during 2025. The research center focuses on exercise, cardiovascular health, sleep, weight management and AI-powered health monitoring.

Working with medical and academic institutions, the company aims to develop health features that make everyday wellness tracking more personalized and accessible.

Supporting education and culture

Beyond technology, OPPO expanded its community initiatives around the world.

The company contributed more than RMB 37 million (approximately PHP 294 million or US$5.2 million) to public welfare programs during 2025.

Working with Discovery Channel for a second consecutive year, OPPO continued its “Culture in a Shot” campaign, encouraging people in 15 countries to document local festivals and traditions through smartphone photography.

OPPO also partnered with UNESCO to donate 1,000 tablets to schools across Asia and Africa. The devices are helping students learn computer programming in Thailand while improving access to digital education in underserved communities across Africa.

The company also continued its partnership with UEFA by supporting sports development and community programs across Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

The complete 2025 OPPO Sustainability Report is now available through OPPO’s official channels for readers who want a closer look at the company’s environmental and social initiatives.
