Fortinet Expands OT Security: What It Means for Industrial Cybersecurity

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Mar 2025) — Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) has expanded its Operational Technology (OT) Security Platform, enhancing protection for critical infrastructure against evolving cyberthreats. The latest updates introduce advanced threat visibility, secure segmentation, and ruggedized connectivity solutions designed for industrial environments.

The upgraded platform includes new FortiGate Rugged next-generation firewalls (NGFWs) and enhancements to the FortiGuard OT Security Service, now covering over 3,300 OT protocol rules and 1,500 virtual patching rules. These capabilities help organizations defend against known exploited vulnerabilities while securing legacy OT systems. Fortinet has also launched industrial-grade FortiSwitch Rugged models to prevent lateral movement across OT networks.

For secure remote connectivity, Fortinet unveiled two 5G-enabled solutions: the FortiExtender Rugged 511G for high-speed, secure connectivity in remote OT sites and the FortiExtender Vehicle 511G for fleet vehicles. Both devices feature Wi-Fi 6 and eSIM support, simplifying carrier selection.

Fortinet is also enhancing AI-driven security operations (SecOps) for OT environments. Updates to FortiAnalyzer and FortiDeceptor provide deeper threat insights and improved compliance tracking. FortiNDR Cloud now supports OT threat hunting, while FortiNDR on-premises includes a Purdue Model view and OT-focused device inventory.

Recognized as a leader in OT security, Fortinet continues to support global organizations in integrating IT and OT security. Industry players such as Honeywell and Alleima have adopted Fortinet solutions to bolster cybersecurity resilience and streamline network management.

Fortinet is hosting an OT Security Summit on March 12, offering insights from industry experts on safeguarding OT environments. Participants will learn strategies to secure legacy systems, enhance remote access, and strengthen OT SecOps.
