MABALACAT, Philippines (Jul 2026) : High-speed racing at Clark is about to get a lot greener as the premier racing series in the country returns to the track this week. After a brief pause since March, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup is revving back up for Race Weekend 2 from July 9 to 11 at the Clark International Speedway.
Racing for the environment
This season is not just about speed. The event is serving as a “rolling laboratory” to test low-carbon biofuels. Two race vehicles, the Vios OMR and the Tamaraw OMR, will be pushing their limits using a five percent coco-biodiesel blend (B5) and a 20 percent bio-ethanol blend (E20).
Testing these fuels under extreme racing conditions helps evaluate how they perform when the stakes are high. It is a big step toward making motorsports more sustainable in the Philippines. Toyota and Lexus already have many models compatible with these fuel types, showing a shift toward diversifying energy sources to reach carbon neutrality.
A show for the fans
The series has been bringing the thrill and joy of motorsports closer to Pinoy fans since it launched in 2014. Back in March, over 6,000 spectators showed up at Riverpark in Cavite for the first race weekend, which saw the debut of the locally made Tamaraw one-make race car.
If you want to catch the action live, Race Weekend 2 will be open to the public on July 11. The best part? Admission is completely free.
Fueling progress
Elijah Marcial, Toyota Motor Philippines First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations, shared that testing biofuels in competitive racing allows the team to check efficiency and reliability in high-demand environments.
Elvin Luciano, Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs, added that using alternative fuels reduces dependency on non-renewables like petroleum and fits into the company’s broader goal of carbon neutrality.
The TGR Philippine Cup is supported by various partners, including GT Radial, Petron, and the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy.
