To me, my X-Men. Marvel finally answered the question mutants have been waiting years for: the X-Men are coming to the MCU, with a star-studded cast revealed at D23 and a release date locked in. Kevin Feige took the stage to announce the reboot drops May 5, 2028, and the lineup is a who’s who of young Hollywood, topped by a Broadway newcomer making her movie debut as Storm.

The full mutant lineup

Marvel Studios confirmed the roster at D23, and it is stacked. Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, Kit Connor is Cyclops, Samara Weaving takes on Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Christopher Abbott is Professor X, and Adam Driver is the villainous Mr. Sinister. The Fox-era casting for these roles is now officially history.

The breakout of the whole reveal is Maya Boyd, the Broadway performer cast as Storm. At 23, Boyd is making her movie debut in the role previously played by Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp, and her casting has quickly become one of the most talked-about moves of this D23.

First proper X-Men movie in the MCU

This is the first full X-Men feature since Disney absorbed Fox’s mutant library, and the first real film since 2019’s Dark Phoenix. The billion-dollar Deadpool and Wolverine and the animated X-Men ’97 on Disney+ have been gradually warming audiences back up to the mutants, and now they finally get their own movie.

The Doomsday connection

The new Gen-Z-class X-Men won’t be the only mutants on screen. Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters December 18, brings back the original Fox X-Men stars, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit. So fans get two generations of mutants in one packed season.

The May 2028 date gives Marvel years to build around it, and with Doomsday on the horizon and an X-Men feature finally parked on the slate, the MCU’s mutant era is officially, unmistakably here. To me, indeed, my X-Men.
