Winter is coming with a wedding. Disney closed out its D23 showcase with a huge reveal for Frozen 3, confirming that Anna and Kristoff finally tie the knot, a menacing new villain crashes the celebration, and the sisters head somewhere far scarier than Arendelle. Oh, and Olaf is getting a girlfriend named Samantha. The sequel hits theaters Thanksgiving 2027.
Anna and Kristoff’s royal wedding
Kristen Bell confirmed on the D23 stage that Anna will marry her “mountain man” Kristoff, a vow years in the making. “This royal wedding has been a long time coming,” Bell teased, with Elsa by her side. It is the payoff to the proposal drama that closed out Frozen 2.
A wilder, more dangerous land
Idina Menzel revealed that the world of Frozen has gotten “a little bit more mysterious” since audiences last left Arendelle. Footage showed Anna and Kristoff stumbling upon Elsa on a dock studying a mysterious stone that opens a portal to a snowy dimension, which Elsa calls “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created.” The royal party is headed far beyond the Enchanted Forest.
The new villain and Olaf plus one
The first footage teased the royal wedding being crashed by a new villain, a mysterious figure descending from a snowy peak with a threat aimed at the royal sisters. Not everything is doom, though. Josh Gad joined Bell and Menzel onstage to sing about Olaf’s one true love, a snowman named Samantha, paying off a running joke from the second film.
Why wait until 2027
Frozen 3 was originally slated for 2026 but was pushed back. Gad explained the delay simply: no one wants to rush it, and they want it “absolutely worthy” of the story set out in 2013. The originals remain blockbuster royalty, Frozen earning $1.28 billion and Frozen II $1.45 billion, and Bob Iger has already confirmed a Frozen 4 is in the works. The Lopezes are back to write the music for both.
For Filipino fans who grew up singing “Let It Go,” the Kingdom of Arendelle is far from done. A wedding, a wild new frontier, and a snowman in love are all coming Thanksgiving 2027.
