Navigating heartbreak, anxiety, and motherhood all at once usually calls for rest, but for one iconic electro-pop pair, it became the spark for a bold new chapter. Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, the Swedish duo known as Icona Pop, have officially released their latest studio album, “Ritual,” through Ultra Records and Iconic Sound Recordings.
The 10-track project arrives alongside an official visualizer for the focus track “Hurt,” co-directed by the duo and Nicole Walker. The song captures the raw transition from heartbreak to acceptance, turning personal pain into a heavy, bass-driven dancefloor anthem.
Dancing through emotional healing
After living in Los Angeles for years, both artists moved back to Sweden during a massive transitional period. Caroline and Aino became mothers just days apart from each other while steering through personal heartbreaks and life shifts. Rather than hiding those feelings, they brought them directly into the studio.
“The whole journey with Ritual was us being in the studio with people that made us feel safe enough to stay in the uncomfortable and explore,” the duo shared. They noted that making the record became a therapeutic way to heal and move forward without placing any rules on their sound.
“Hurt” serves as one of the album’s most vulnerable moments. It opens with quiet keys before building toward an energetic release. Caroline explained that the song reflects the brutal acceptance of being left by someone you love, adding that it captures the feeling of finally reaching the other side and dancing with friends again.
A complete return to form
The new record also features previously released singles, including “Yellow Top,” “Butterfly Feelings,” “Dance To This,” and the title track “Ritual” featuring Daya. Together, the songs offer a mix of euphoric synths and club rhythms made for cathartic moments.
For Pinoy pop fans who have followed the pair since their breakout 2012 hit “I Love It,” this release shows a mature evolution of two artists owning their roles as creative partners, entrepreneurs, and mothers.
Catching the new tracks live
To support the release, the pair will kick off a North American headline tour starting September 2026, with stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, followed by a Scandinavian tour run through October and November.
Note: Philippine concert dates and local physical store distribution details have not been announced yet. Pinoy listeners can stream “Ritual” on major digital streaming platforms worldwide, with tour updates available via the official Icona Pop tour page.
