Typhoon Narra is no longer the Philippines’ problem: the storm is barreling toward China’s Guangdong coast, with Hong Kong set to raise signals by midweek. The live weather story at home is what Narra’s exit leaves behind, and PAGASA is tracking three systems plus a monsoon that refuses to quit.

Where Narra went

Narra moved northwest past the Philippines and is now approaching Guangdong, per the South China Morning Post, with Hong Kong possibly issuing typhoon signal number 8 by Tuesday or Wednesday. It never came close enough to landfall in PH to require evacuation, but it helped push monsoon rain into Luzon over the weekend.

The four systems on PAGASA’s board

System Status Monday
Obet (formerly Saudel) Inside PAR, exiting in about 12 hours; no longer expected to become a super typhoon, per ABS-CBN
Gaenari (formerly Neneng) 520 km north of Itbayat, Batanes, moving away
A tropical depression 1,330 km east of southeastern Luzon, being monitored
Narra Outside PAR, nearing Guangdong, China

What this means for Luzon

The habagat remains the real rainmaker. PAGASA’s heavy rainfall outlook gives Batanes 50 to 100 mm Monday, while Metro Manila, Ilocos, the Cordilleras, Central Luzon, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal get cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms that could trigger flash floods or landslides, per GMA News.

The week ahead

Obet’s exit strips the monsoon of its engine by midweek, but PAGASA warns another surge is possible next week. Classes in several towns already shifted online Tuesday; we listed them in the August 25 walang pasok roundup, and the full storm picture is in our running PAGASA tracker.
