Twitch is down overnight, and Filipino streamers running early-morning schedules are feeling it. The platform’s login, chat and video playback have been breaking for thousands of users, and there is still no fix time on the table.

What’s actually breaking

Twitch’s official status page currently lists a “Service Negatively Impacted” incident flagged as Investigating, and says it affects Web, Chat and Video (Watching). Chat and video playback are both marked at “Major Outage,” while login shows as operational in the component table.

Outage tracker Downdetector tells a slightly different story, with 42% of reports pointing at the website and 26% at the mobile app. Users there have logged problems since 3:15 p.m. ET on Thursday, which is 3:15 a.m. Friday in Manila.

The outage timeline so far

All times below are Manila time (UTC+8) on Friday, August 28.

Time (Manila) What happened
3:15 a.m. Downdetector reports begin climbing past baseline
Around 4:00 a.m. Reports pass 10,000 and climb past 13,000
4:09 a.m. Twitch posts its official “Investigating” incident
4:41 a.m. Still under investigation as of this writing

Why your stream page looks fine but isn’t

Part of what makes this outage confusing is that Twitch’s own status page showed all systems operational even while thousands were reporting problems, a lag noted in coverage of the incident. Status pages can trail real user experience, so a tracker like Downdetector is the more reliable signal while the official page catches up.

Netflix is having issues too

Twitch isn’t the only streamer-facing service wobbling today. Netflix also logged a spike in reports on the same tracker, though no confirmed link between the two outages has been established.

What Philippine streamers should do

For creators and viewers on early-morning or overnight schedules, the practical move is to check Twitch’s live status before retrying, and to report issues on Downdetector so the scale of the problem is visible. The outage also lands as regulators keep tightening the rules around how streaming platforms operate in the Philippines, and as local streamers push for stable and responsible streaming habits.

Twitch has not yet given a cause or an expected fix time. We’ll update this story if the company posts an update.
