After a five-year absence, the nameplate that helped define rugged motoring for generations of Filipino drivers is officially back. Mitsubishi has revealed the all-new 2027 Pajero, a boxy, premium 4×4 flagship that will be built in Thailand and exported to around 100 markets, and the Philippines is on that list.
The 4×4 icon returns
Mitsubishi calls the revived off-roader its new-generation flagship model, and it is pitching the Pajero squarely against premium rivals such as the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol. The reveal closes a comeback arc that astig.ph previewed in late August, when the return date and expected shape of the fifth-generation Pajero were still coming together.
The new body keeps bold, upright proportions and the horizontal design language inherited from the first-generation model, finished with T-shaped adaptive headlights and a choice of honeycomb or horizontal-bar grilles. A hexagonal rear motif reinterprets the rear-mounted spare tire of earlier generations, while the C-pillar nods to the original’s roll bar.
Engine and off-road hardware
Under the hood sits a 2.4-liter turbo MIVEC diesel producing 204 hp and 480 Nm, sent through an eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters to all four wheels. Mitsubishi combines its Super Select 4WD-II driveline with Super All-Wheel Control for left-to-right torque vectoring, and seven drive modes cover Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.
Suspension uses independent front double wishbones and a five-link rigid rear axle with coil springs, tuned around a 52:48 front-to-rear weight split. The cabin steps upmarket with tan leather, acoustic glass across the windshield and door windows, and extensive noise-reduction work, while the return of the multi-meter on the infotainment screen keeps an eye on pitch, roll, and tire angle on rough terrain.

Philippine availability
Mitsubishi says the Pajero will launch first in Thailand before rolling out to Japan and Australia within the current fiscal year, which runs through March 2027, with the ASEAN region following. The plan is to export the SUV to about 100 countries, and the Philippines is included in that set, giving local showrooms a genuine flagship to look forward to after the nameplate’s long gap, even as the Philippine market overall has cooled through 2026.
