Xiaomi just showed off its first wide-format foldable two days before Apple’s rumored foldable debut, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold is shaping up to be the most ambitious book-style hinge the brand has shipped.
President of Xiaomi Mobile, Lu Weibing, posted official renders of the Xiaomi 18 Fold on Weibo on September 2, 2026, confirming the design, the launch date, and the colors. The company will unveil the device in China on September 7, 2026, with the global reveal expected to follow.
What Xiaomi confirmed about the Xiaomi 18 Fold
The official renders and Xiaomi’s press materials lock in a “mid-fold” form factor. That puts it between a tall book-style foldable like the Galaxy Z Fold8 and a square flip phone like the Xiaomi Mix Flip, with a wide aspect ratio when unfolded. It is the company’s first foldable to drop the tall-and-narrow Mix Fold template.
Key confirmed specs so far:
- Cover display: 5.38 inches
- Inner foldable display: 7.58 inches
- Chipset: Xiaomi’s in-house Xring O3 (3nm, with LPDDR6 RAM support and an AnTuTu score reportedly above 5.2 million)
- Rear cameras: triple setup in a horizontal pill-shaped module with LED flash; leaks point to a 200MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide, and a 3.5x optical zoom telephoto
- Memory and storage (leaked): up to 16GB RAM, 256GB base storage, Android 17 with HyperOS
Color confirmed by Xiaomi’s official post: Nishino Red (also referred to as “Westfield Red” in some Xiaomi teasers). Expect at least one neutral colorway to join it.

If you are already sizing up Xiaomi’s wider foldable push, our Redmi Note 17 Pro Max review covers the Xiaomi ecosystem that this phone will sit alongside. The September 9 timing also lines up with our story on Apple’s first event under new CEO Ternus and the rumored foldable iPhone, and how it compares with the recently crowned HONOR Magic V6.
Why this matters
The wide-format foldable category is suddenly crowded. Apple is rumored to unveil its first foldable on September 9, 2026, two days after Xiaomi’s event. OPPO and vivo have already shipped wide-format foldables, and Google is widely expected to enter the segment later this year. Xiaomi’s move to a wider aspect ratio is a direct bet that more people want a foldable that feels closer to a small tablet when open, not a tall phone.
The Xring O3 chip is also a statement. It is Xiaomi’s first 3nm in-house silicon and the first time the company has shipped a flagship foldable on its own SoC. If real-world performance lines up with the leaked 5.2 million AnTuTu number, Xiaomi has a credible answer to Qualcomm inside its most expensive phone of the year.
