Oil price hike Sept 8: diesel up P5.18, gasoline P4.69, kerosene P5.58

Filling up gets pricier Tuesday, Sept 8: diesel jumps P5.18, gasoline P4.69 and kerosene P5.58 a liter. Here's what to expect at the pump. #OilPrice #Gasoline #Diesel #FuelHike

The brief relief at the pump is over. Starting Tuesday, Sept 8, oil firms will raise fuel prices again, with the Department of Energy confirming increases of more than P5 a liter for diesel and kerosene and close to P4.70 for gasoline.

How much more you’ll pay starting Sept 8

In its weekly price advisory, the DOE said the following per-liter adjustments will take effect at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept 8:

Fuel Increase per liter
Diesel +P5.18
Gasoline +P4.69
Kerosene +P5.58

The official advisory, first reported by ABS-CBN, points to ongoing Middle East tension and peso depreciation as the reasons behind the jump. BusinessInquirer also flagged the increase ahead of the adjustment.

Why fuel is climbing again

This week’s hike is the local ripple of a hotter Middle East. The United States recently destroyed three Iranian crude tankers after missile attacks on its warships, and Tehran has threatened an even more forceful response. A weaker peso, which slipped to fresh record lows around P62.40 to the dollar, also makes every barrel of imported fuel more expensive.

What a full tank now costs you

  • Gasoline: on a typical 45-liter tank, the P4.69 hike adds about P211 per fill-up.
  • Diesel: on a 50-liter tank, the P5.18 increase adds roughly P259.
  • Kerosene: used widely for home cooking and lighting, it goes up P5.58 a liter.

Reversing last week’s rollback

The Sept 8 increase erases the rollback that took effect Sept 1, when diesel and kerosene dropped as much as P3.84 a liter. It also lands at the top of the range astig.ph forecast last week, when analysts saw diesel rising P4.50 to P5.50. With crude prices and the peso both under pressure, motorists should brace for the possibility of another round of hikes in the weeks ahead.
