Is Apple Pay coming to the Philippines? The short answer is yes, and it may be closer than you think. A high ranking Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) official has hinted that local banks are preparing to launch it, and several major bank apps are already showing “Supports Wallet” on the App Store.
Here is everything we know about Apple Pay’s Philippine launch, which banks are ready, and what it means for commuters and shoppers.
What the BSP says
BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan told reporters during a roundtable that the central bank never blocked Apple Pay. “We didn’t object to it. So, it’s up to the banks,” he said.
He then dropped a hint that had Filipino iPhone users buzzing: “Stay tuned kasi may alam akong mga banks mag-launch”, which translates to “I know some banks are looking to launch.” He did not name the banks or give a date.
Earlier reports placed Apple Pay’s Philippine entry in the third quarter of 2026, as local banks worked to satisfy the platform’s technical requirements.
The “Supports Wallet” clue
The strongest signal comes from the App Store itself. Several Philippine bank apps have quietly added “Supports Wallet” to their listings, a required step before Apple Pay can go live.
As of July 31, 2026, the growing list includes BPI, UnionBank, Chinabank, GoTyme Bank, EastWest, and Metrobank, plus fintech apps like Atome and Wise.
That is a serious lineup. BPI, UnionBank, EastWest, Chinabank, and Metrobank are five of the biggest traditional banks in the country, and GoTyme is one of the fastest growing digital banks.
Apple’s own published list of supported markets as of July 10, 2026 still does not include the Philippines. That list updates only when a launch is official, so expect it to change once the banks are ready.
Why Apple Pay matters here
The Philippines is a mobile wallet country. GCash and Maya dominate everyday payments, and Google Pay already launched on November 18, 2025 with partners including China Bank, EastWest, GCash, GoTyme, Maya, RCBC, UnionBank, Wise, and Zed.
Apple Pay would do for iPhone users what Google Pay did for Android users: let them tap their phone at any NFC terminal instead of pulling out a card or opening an app.
It also matters for Apple’s ecosystem. Apple Pay works across iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, and it uses Face ID or Touch ID for authentication. For the large number of Filipinos on iOS, it is the missing piece.
What about transit?
Apple Pay would arrive alongside a bigger push for tap to pay on public transport. MRT3 rolled out its tap to pay fare system in July 2025, and LRT2 launched contactless payments across all 13 stations on July 13, 2026.
LRT1 is next. Tangonan said the parties are down to a “final agreement” with the rail line’s private operator, and he was hopeful the system could roll out within the quarter.
Commuters can already tap Visa or Mastercard bank cards, use NFC phones and wearables, or scan QR codes. Once Apple Pay launches, tapping an iPhone at the fare gate becomes the obvious next step.
When will it actually launch?
The honest answer: nobody has confirmed a date. The Q3 2026 window is still the expectation, and the “Supports Wallet” additions suggest banks are in the final stretch of technical work.
BSP’s stance is clear: it never objected, and the launch depends on the banks completing their integration with Apple. The repeated “stay tuned” from the central bank’s deputy governor suggests an announcement could come soon.
