- AI-driven threats and Cybercrime-as-a-Service (CaaS) are set to rise
- Cybercriminals to combine digital and real-life threats for more impact
- Fortinet emphasizes collective action and robust cybersecurity frameworks
Fortinet, a leader in cybersecurity, has revealed its 2025 Cyberthreat Predictions Report, detailing a surge in sophisticated, AI-driven attacks. The report highlights how cybercrime is evolving, with adversaries leveraging specialized tools and blending digital and physical threats to execute large-scale, impactful operations.
A key trend identified is the rise of Cybercrime-as-a-Service (CaaS). Attack groups are becoming more specialized, focusing on specific parts of the attack chain. Automated hacking tools, powered by AI, are expected to dominate underground marketplaces, enabling even novice attackers to deploy advanced cyber tactics.
Cloud vulnerabilities are another pressing concern, with cybercriminals targeting businesses’ increasingly complex cloud environments. Attackers are anticipated to exploit weaknesses in multi-cloud systems, creating a significant challenge for organizations.
Fortinet also predicts the integration of physical threats into cyber playbooks. This dangerous combination could lead to transnational crimes, including smuggling and human trafficking, conducted in collaboration with cybercrime groups.
The report stresses the importance of collective action in combating these threats. Public-private partnerships and global collaborations, such as Fortinet’s involvement in the World Economic Forum Cybercrime Atlas initiative, aim to disrupt cybercriminal operations. Fortinet underscores the role of AI in strengthening defenses, highlighting how its AI-driven platform helps organizations stay ahead of evolving threats.
Alan Reyes, Fortinet Philippines’ Country Manager, said, “AI enhances defenses by automating threat detection and response while streamlining operations for security teams. By advancing public-private partnerships and adopting robust cybersecurity practices, organizations can safeguard critical assets and remain protected.”
With these predictions, Fortinet calls on businesses to prioritize cybersecurity awareness and training, ensuring every employee plays a role in protecting against future risks. The message is clear: combating cybercrime requires a unified, proactive approach.
