PARIS, France (Jul. 2026) — A professional gaming team just rewrote esports history by crushing a world record with 33 eliminations in a single match to take home the biggest piece of a $1,000,000 (approx. PHP 58,000,000) prize pool.
The Latin American representative, Mexican organization LYON, dominated the Free Fire at the 2026 Esports World Cup by outlasted 23 elite opponents over four days of intense competition. The massive victory also secures them the very first direct qualification spot for the Free Fire World Series Global Finals 2026, which will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, this November.
Breaking records and taking names
The championship lineup featured star players Joker, Della, Joacozd, Haaxsz, and Benjamín Gamezking Pérez, who walked away with the tournament's Overall MVP award. Aside from their record-breaking 33-kill game, which completely blew past the previous global tournament record of 28, the team secured their trophy after a nail-biting Game 7 in the Match Point Grand Finals.
Thailand's AG.AL finished as the runner-up with 122 points, while Brazil's LOUD took third place with 111 points.
Fans are locked in
Mobile gaming is clearly drawing massive crowds worldwide. The Paris event drew an all-time high of 803,647 peak concurrent viewers and accumulated more than 11.3 million hours watched, setting a brand-new viewership milestone for the tournament series.
The global race is far from over. While LYON rests easy with their guaranteed slot, 24 qualifying teams will eventually gather for the world championship from Nov. 6 to 28. Regional campaigns are already kicking off to fill the remaining slots. Southeast Asian squads will battle it out in the upcoming regional fall tournament starting this August, which concludes in Surabaya, Indonesia. Meanwhile, players in the United States can start registering for their open qualifiers on July 31, 2026.
Pinoy fans can catch up on all the match replays, highlights, and upcoming tournament schedules through the official Garena Free Fire channels on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. The mobile game remains free to download on both the App Store and Google Play.
