MANILA, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Getting into an elite workshop led by industry legends Jose Javier Reyes, Laurice Guillen, and Joel Lamangan is a dream for most actors, but for Kaloy Estrella, it is just the latest win in a career built on grit. The Far Eastern University alumnus recently secured his spot in the highly competitive Master Series: FDCP Acting Workshop for Filipino Talents 2026.
While the competition was fierce, Estrella’s resume shows he earned his place through years of grinding in the theater and indie film scenes.
Building a name through theater
Before becoming a familiar face in front of the camera, Estrella sharpened his skills on the stage. He took on demanding roles such as Basilio and Binatang Ibarra in “Noli Me Tangere” productions by Gantimpala Theater and Artist Playground. His portfolio includes everything from “Florante at Laura” to musical ensembles like “Jeproks: The Musical” and “Dear OWWA.” He also starred in the FEU theater production “Mali ba ang Mangarap sa Mundong Puno ng Takot? Mali!”
A rising star in film and television
The transition from stage to screen has been successful for the young actor. He has become a top choice for student and independent filmmakers, headlining projects for the University of the Philippines Film Institute, Mowelfund Film Institute, and National University Laguna. His versatility eventually caught the attention of mainstream networks, landing him the role of Minyong in the GMA historical drama series “Pulang Araw.”
Estrella’s range extends to commercial modeling for brands such as Burger King, Efficascent Oil, and Arthaland. He has also appeared in music videos for Benj Pangilinan under Sony Music Philippines and CHRSTN under O/C Records.
“One thing I’ve always heard in theater is, ‘Be in the moment,’” Estrella shared. He added that while the journey feels surreal, he has learned that simply showing up can create something truly magical. His acceptance into the FDCP acting workshop is a major personal milestone and a sign that this Pinoy talent is just getting started.
