MANILA, Philippines (Jul 2026) — Commuters riding LRT-2 no longer need to line up at ticket counters or reload beep cards. As of today, passengers can simply tap their Visa or Mastercard credit, debit, or prepaid cards at designated Fast Lanes to pay for their fares.
What payment methods are accepted
The LRT-2 contactless system now accepts:
- Visa credit, debit, and prepaid cards
- Mastercard credit, debit, and prepaid cards
- Mobile wallets linked to eligible Visa or Mastercard cards (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay)
- GCash Commute QR (already available)
- NFC-enabled devices (smartphones, smartwatches with linked cards)
The system works by tapping your card or device at the designated Fast Lane readers at station entry gates. No queue, no reload needed.
Visa and RCBC launch piso fare promo
To celebrate the launch, RCBC and Visa are offering a piso fare cashback promo for the entire month of July 2026. Commuters who use their RCBC-issued Visa cards will get ₱1 cashback per tap. It is the first of its kind for public transit in the country.
LRT-1 next in line
The government is already planning to bring contactless payments to LRT-1 following the LRT-2 rollout. Once implemented across all rail lines, Metro Manila commuters will be able to tap their way through the entire LRT network without ever touching a ticket machine.
Why this matters
For millions of daily commuters, this means no more lining up during rush hour, no more hunting for exact change, and no more dead beep cards. It is the kind of convenience that cities like Tokyo and Singapore have had for years, and Manila is finally catching up.
