Marvel just did the one thing fans said it never would: recast an established MCU role. Emily Hampshire is the new EDITH, the AI once voiced inside Spider-Man’s Stark glasses, and she debuts in the first trailer for VisionQuest unveiled at D23.
Who is EDITH again?
EDITH is Tony Stark’s parting gift to Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Far From Home, an all-seeing AI that once ran a drone army. Dawn Michelle King voiced her in the film; Hampshire, best known as Stevie from Schitt’s Creek, takes over the role for VisionQuest, per Yahoo Entertainment.
What the D23 trailer shows
Paul Bettany’s Vision is searching for his identity inside his own mindscape, guided reluctantly by James Spader’s returning Ultron, the pseudo-father who once tried to kill him. EDITH joins a host of AI characters populating the show, confirming months of recast rumors in one trailer drop.
Why the recast makes sense
VisionQuest is a story about AI identity, so recasting EDITH with a new performer is thematically on point: this Vision is literally rebuilt from fragments. Spader’s return alongside Bettany gives Marvel Television its biggest WandaVision-era reunion yet, as we noted in our VisionQuest explainer.
When and where to watch
VisionQuest streams on Disney+ in 2026, part of a D23 slate that also confirmed the X-Men cast restart. If you need to catch up on the web-slinger’s AI lore, our Spider-Man movie ranking covers every film era, and the X-Men casting news rounds out Marvel’s next phase.
