Are you Team Matteo or Team Carlo???
For the first time on the concert stage, the tandem of Matteo Guidicelli and Carlo Aquino will have a one-night only show dubbed as “MatteoXCarlo” on November 17 at the Music Museum.
At a recent media conference, Matteo and Carlo came in looking handsome and comfortably clad in their casual but unique wardrobes the latter notably on trousers and fashion hat and gamely answered queries thrown in by us from the press.
Carlo, who is fresh from the success of his hit movie opposite Angelica Panganiban, the "Exes Baggage", is equally thrilled and excited to be working with fellow Star Magic artist, Matteo who was last seen on the big screen in 2017 via "The Ghost Bride" with Kim Chiu and Christian Bables.
“We’re just going to sing, jam, let our audiences sing with us, and have a good time with us,” Matteo shared with a big smile.
Matteo, who is no stranger to the concert stage, after having had three successful solo concerts and being part of an ensemble one, described that he is facing “MatteoXCarlo” with a “blank page.”
Holding the concert is their way of showing gratitude to their fans that’s why they want it to be intimate and interactive. The Music Museum was picked out by the producers for this type of show.
Both are good actors but that’s where similarities end. Each has his own personality and brand of music. Carlo is quiet and the mysterious type while Matteo is the outgoing and friendly one.
Concert director Frank Lloyd has had more concert experience with Matteo and was there during Matti's dance concert in hometown Cebu. Handling Carlo is going to be as fun as it should be.
Carlo might perform Ben & Ben’s “Maybe The Night,” which he sang in his recent blockbuster movie “Exes Baggage.”
Matteo on the other note may render his girlfriend Sarah Geronimo’s hit “Kilometro” with rap touch of rap lines and of course lots of dancing.
“MatteoXCarlo” has repertoire of classics, some late ’90s hits, and modern pop rock tunes.
Among the covers on the menu are those songs by the likes of Parokya ni Edgar, Bruno Mars, and even as classic as The Beatles, according to Matteo.
Musical Director will be the very busy and in demand Marvin Querido (NeoColors days) who I learned is still tinkering on the play list while rehearsals are ongoing.
"Nothing is definitely final yet when it comes to the song list they are going to sing." says Marvin.
It was super cool seeing Marvin again after I have featured their band, Neo Colors back in the 1990s with Jimmy Antiporda as band leader and Ito Rapadas as lead vocal.
I had the chance to ask the guys to describe each other in one word?
Matteo said he finds Carlo “marvelous” while Carlo answered back with “you rock.”
Now wasn't that extra cool? I hope they remain great buddies on and off screen.
I am personally happy for my good friend Matti who'm I have known for more than five years thru a fun run by Papa Piolo. And he has not changed he has been humble and always kind and reachable to fans and supporters.
“Carlo was a child star and he’s born to this. He has personality and he’s a rock star himself.
He’s good at what he does. We’re just gonna share each other’s energies and we’ll see how it goes,” Matteo humbly says of his concert partner.
The concert is Carlo’s first huge musical endeavor since “G-Mik” days back in the ’90s. Through the years Carlo has learned and developed his skill on accoustic guitar playing which he showcases on a portion in ASAP show.
Produced by Hills & Dreams and OnQ, “MatteoXCarlo” will be directed by Frank Lloyd Mamaril with musical director Marvin Querido.
In the future, the two would like to collaborate with the forrmer vocalist of IV Of Spades, Unique; indie folk-pop band Ben&Ben; and rock bands Kamikazee and Parokya ni Edgar.
Why not? And when that happens, expect a 2nd installment of their back2back concert with an explosive repertoire!
Tickets are still available thru Ticketworld.
Many thanks Ms. Thess and Lyka of Star Magic for having us!
