MANILA, Philippines – PLDT & Smart Communications Chairman & CEO Manuel V Pangilinan has unveiled the new, official logos for two of the country’s top technology companies at an event held in Makati Shangri-la Hotel.

Running with the slogan “A New Day”, the re-branding was revealed shortly after the company cemented its acquisition of the 700 MHz LTE frequency previously owned by San Miguel Corporation – an acquisition made in part with the cooperation of rival Globe Telecom. Smart has already activated three 700 MHz LTE sites, in line with its plans to roll out a total of 360 cell sites within this year.

The new logos for PLDT and Smart show a big departure from its predecessor, ushering a new era in the company’s history.

The big reveal comes as a surprise to some observers, who commented that the new logos look nothing like the old logos, while some noted that it looks similar to the Google Drive and Autodesk logo.

PLDT and Smart launch their new logos with a promise of a "new day." Looks like Google Drive, right?
